When reading, use various strategies to learn words within the context of the reading. Some of these strategies are demonstrated in this video.
- Whole-Text context clues: This is when you think of the feeling or emotion of a whole page or part of the story. If it's a negative part, the word may be negative; if it's a positive part, the word may be positive.
- Phrase context clues: Look at just the words around the word to help with the unknown word.
- Word parts: use prefixes, suffixes and root words that you know to help learn an unknown word.
