2,500 Book Challenge
In Mr. Barnes' Results Only Learning Environment, we believe that reading is part of life. We read from Day 1 through Day 180, and hopefully beyond.
To facilitate healthy reading habits, students will complete a Reading All Year, 2,500 book challenge Project (RAY). At roughly 100 students, each reading at least 25 books, my students will read approximately 2,500 books this school year. As you'll see in the RAY section on the left-side and top menus, students are asked to read all year, selecting books from various genres.
Each quarter we will spend three to four weeks in a reading workshop, using class time to read, write about and discuss books.
During other units, no less than seven minutes of every class will be dedicated to reading.
As there is never any homework in this class, students are encouraged to read at home nightly. Setting reading goals (10-15 minutes or 10-15 pages) is strongly advised.
Throughout the year, students will demonstrate mastery of reading and writing skills in their RAY Projects. Learn more about the year-long reading project on the left and top menus.
Reading is the single-most important activity students can do to learn in all subject areas and to become more well-rounded people. Parents should encourage children to read at home, and students should always carry a book with them wherever they go.
Each student will play a key role in our 2,500 book challenge. Help us celebrate reading.
